BONNIE BAXTER: BAPHOMET / TRAMONTANO

November 15, 2006 to January 13, 2007
FOFA Gallery Vitrines

The FOFA Gallery Vitrines is featuring Bonnie Baxter’s series of ten large digital prints titled Baphomet and her video, Tramontano (music by composer Michael Oesterle). Baphomet’s stunning imagery uses layering to create a self-portrayal that references the individual while alienating the image. Starting from a series of “head-shots” the artist layers these photographs with images drawn from a collection amassed over 30 years. Using digital photography and printing Baxter is able to produce an infinite array of combinations that redefine and recreate the portraits. The result is a series that speaks of the ever-shifting identity of the individual, as writer Christine Unger states, “they insist that we are different people at each moment in our life, a blend of body and spirit infused with the significance of a specific time and place.”

A reception to celebrate the exhibitions will be held on Tuesday, December 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the FOFA Gallery Atrium

The FOFA Gallery Vitrines is located on the ground floor of the Integrated Engineering/Visual Arts Complex of Concordia University, 1515 Ste. Catherine Street West, outside EV 1-715.

The Vitrines may be accessed through the FOFA Gallery weekdays between 11 am and 7 pm or from the pavilion’s entrances at the corner of Guy Street or MacKay Street daily from 7:30 am to 11 pm.
