Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo
Carnivalissimo drawings

Drawing on his El Salvadoran cultural history of storytelling, Osvaldo Castillo employs personal iconography in allegorical form to explore El Salvador's collective memory in connection to Latin American myth, history and North American popular culture. His project features large, mixed media drawings that explore the possibilities of narrative and the significance of drawing as a personal act of remembering. Using the structural framework of an extreme carnival, this series delves into the violence visited on the body through the historical, cultural and political layers that shape it in time.
