About
DSM-VI presents itself as a vast labyrinthine space, inhabited by robotic creatures that evoke what one could call “machine psychosis.” Expressing symptoms such as neuroses, psychoses, personality disorders, paranoia, schizophrenia, and mania, the machines are a singular allegorical incarnation of a world governed by chaos and dysfunction. The title of the project was inspired by that of the psychiatrists’ bible, the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), a manual classifying and describing hundreds of behavioural disorders. Awaiting the publication of DSM-V in May 2013, Bill Vorn proposes here a possible—and disturbing—version VI.

DSM-VI se présente comme un vaste lieu labyrinthique, habité par des créatures robotisées qui évoquent ce que l’on pourrait nommer la « psychose des machines ». Exprimant des symptômes tels que névroses, psychoses, troubles de la personnalité, paranoïa, schizophrénie, délire, les machines incarnent ici la singulière allégorie d’un monde dominé par le désordre et la dysfonction. Le titre du projet s'inspire de celui du célèbre manuel de référence de psychiatrie, le DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Classifiant et décrivant des centaines de troubles du comportement, ce dernier est considéré comme la bible de la psychiatrie. En attendant la version V (prévue pour mai 2013), Bill Vorn propose ici une possible – et inquiétante – version VI.
