About:
The FOFA Gallery invites submissions from faculty, graduate students, and alumni that strongly address the theory/practice spectrum.
The exhibition is intended as a showcase of the broad range of practices within the Concordia University community that fall under the rubric of research/creation. As Concordia will be hosting the national UAAC conference this year, the local organizing committee intends to make public those works that oftentimes cannot be presented in their original formats at a conference-style gathering. Having identified four topical clusters, the committee identified two as useful curatorial dimensions for the exhibition: “archives” and “the city.”
Archives and the city can be understood as broad categories to explore a variety of research subjects and applied practices that are prevalent in contemporary discourse. The organizing committee defines the archive theme as practices that integrate historical and indexical materials, explore bureaucratic or institutional systems, reordering, meta-narratives, oral histories, memory and loss, trace, classification, or taxonomies.
The city theme presents an opportunity to address architectural concerns, urban planning/design, urban morphology, “revitalization" and decay, city as palimpsest, cultural landscapes, landscape architecture, public art and the city, public space and spatial practice, urban interventions, and so on.
