Alice Jarry

Alice Jarry is a graduate of Concordia University, where she completed a Design Art major as an undergraduate and a master’s degree in Digital Technologies in Design Art Practices. In 1999, she became interested in the modular aspect of silk-screen printing, which would become a key technique in her work.

In 2004, she co-founded Cinqunquatre, a multidisciplinary studio based on contemporary print. Her work in silk-screen printing is a reappropriation of the reproduction process and an exploration of the limits of similitude, the medium itself becoming the raw material for subsequent work. She questions the interchangeable nature of images, the relationship between the subject and its immediate physical environment; sequences, repetitions, inversions, appearances and disappearances are some of the techniques she uses to interpret her relationship to space, to sample it and to rearrange it constantly.

Since 2005, her work has been seen at over 40 events and exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Europe. Her work is exhibited in the United States at the Christina Ray Gallery in Manhattan, which specializes in contemporary explorations of psychogeography. In Canada, she is represented by the Art Interiors Gallery in Toronto.

Alice Jarry est diplômée de l’université Concordia où elle a completé une majeure en Design Art et un certificat de deuxième cycle en Digital technologies in Design Art Practices. C’est d’abord en 1999 qu’elle s’intéresse au caractère modulaire de la sérigraphie, qui deviendra une technique clé dans son travail.

En 2004, elle co-fonde le projet Cinqunquatre, un atelier multidisciplinaire axé sur la pratique contemporaine de l’estampe. Sa pratique en sérigraphie est un détournement du procédé reproductif et une exploration des limites de la similitude, le medium meme devenant le materiel brut d’une œuvre subséquente. Elle interroge le caractère interchangeable de l’image, la relation entre le sujet et son environnement physique et immediate: Séquences, répétitions, inversions, apparitions et disparitions sont autant d’interventions sur le support qui lui permettent d’interpréter son rapport à l’espace, de l’échantillonner et de le réagencer sans cesse.

Depuis 2005, son travail a pu être vu dans plus d’une quarantaine d’événements et d’expositions au Canada, aux Etats-Unis et en Europe. Son travail est exposé aux États-Unis à la Christina Ray Gallery de Manhattan, spécialisée dans les explorations contemporaines en psychogéographie. Au Canada, elle est représentée par la Art Interiors Gallery de Toronto.

Alison Loader
Artist

Filmmaker and 3d digital animation specialist, Alison Reiko Loader has been making short films independently and with the National Film Board of Canada since completing her award-winning first film Showa Shinzan in 2002. She has taught as a member of Concordia’s part-time faculty since 2001, and recently joined Dawson College’s new 3D Animation and CGI program. Her research interests include the creation of old/new media hybrids using animated installations, feminist theory and scientific visual culture. A recent project involved the highly mediated production of greenhouse squash force-grown into fetal shapes with molds made from rapid-prototyped digital models and documented with time-lapse photography, and microscopic animation. Past work with the Possible Movements Lab had her leading the creation of an animated, multi-projector, stereoscopic installation of the Grey Nuns Chapel, while her current collaboration with researchers from Biology has her imaging forest tent caterpillars and moths.

Artiste et spécialiste en animation numérique 3D, Alison Reiko Loader est réalisatrice de courts métrages. Elle travaille seule ou avec l’ONF depuis 2002, année où son premier film, Showa Shinzan, a été primé.  Alison enseigne à temps partiel à l’Université Concordia depuis 2001; elle s’est jointe tout récemment au nouveau programme d’animation 3D et d’imagerie informatisée du Collège Dawson. Ses intérêts de recherche comprennent la création d’hybrides de médias anciens et nouveaux au moyen d’installations animées, les études féministes et la culture scientifique visuelle.  Un de ses plus récents projets documentait, par chronophotographie et animation microscopique, la production sous serre de courges mûries en formes fœtales dans des moules fabriqués à l’aide de modèles numériques prototypés rapidement. Dans le cadre de sa collaboration avec le Possible Movements Lab, Alison a également dirigé la création d’une installation animée de projections stéréoscopiques multiples de la chapelle des Sœurs Grises. Sa collaboration actuelle avec des chercheurs du Département de biologie de l’Université Concordia l’amène à imager des chenilles et des papillons de nuit.

Marie-Andrée Pellerin
Artist

Marie-Andrée Pellerin holds a degree in architectural design from the Université de Montréal. In 2009, during a one-year stay in Berlin, her work took a turn towards urban art as a platform of everyday creation. From 2010 to 2011, she continued her research at Concordia University’s Department of Design and Computation. Her work lies at the crossroads of architecture, urbanity and art.

Marie-Andrée Pellerin est diplômée de l’Université de Montréal en Design architectural. En 2009, lors d’un séjour d’un an à Berlin, elle entame une pratique orientée vers l’art urbain en tant que plateforme de création du quotidien. En 2010-2011, elle poursuit ses recherches à l’Université Concordia au Département de Design and Computation Art. Sa pratique se situe au croisement de l’architecture, de l’urbanité et de l’art.
