Shauna Janssen is a PhD Humanities student in the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture at Concordia University. Broadly, her research works across and in between the disciplines of architecture and performance studies, spatial theory and oral history, drawing from a mixture of discourses about the relations between contemporary art and historical architecture, theories of the city, and contested urban spaces. Shauna’s doctoral project documents the conditions from which art and spatial practices emerge in the city and the processes and methods by which in situ, performative, public, and community based art projects bring into representation and rearticulate diverse modes of agency. An urban activist and independent curator, Shauna is the founder of Urban Occupations Urbaines (UOU), a platform for facilitating creative engagements and collaborations with urban environments in transition and decay.

Shauna Janssen prépare un doctorat en lettres et sciences humaines au Centre d’études interdisciplinaires sur la société et la culture de l’Université Concordia. Ses recherches transdisciplinaires et interdisciplinaires portent globalement sur l’architecture et l’étude des performances artistiques, la théorie spatiale et l’histoire orale; elles puisent aux discours sur les rapports entre l’art contemporain et l’architecture historique, les théories de la ville et les espaces urbains contestés. Dans le cadre de son projet d’études, la doctorante documente les conditions par lesquelles les pratiques artistique et spatiale émergent dans le paysage urbain, d’une part, et les procédés et les méthodes par lesquels des projets artistiques in situ, performatifs, publics ou communautaires sont placés en représentation et reformulent divers modes d’agencement, d’autre part. Militante citadine et commissaire indépendante, Mme Janssen a fondé Urban Occupations Urbaines (UOU), une plateforme de création et de collaboration dans les milieux urbains transitoires en dégradation.
